They say there are a thousand ways to skin a cat (why skin a cat… I have no idea), and there are hundreds of applications to read books on various devices. To be honest, I’m not a physical book reader. I’ve heard people talk about the feel of the paper or the scent of it; honestly, it does nothing for me. I’m a digital reader, I can’t help myself. I know what they say… it’s bad for your eyes (or something) but I don’t care. I Love Screens. I’ve loved them since I was yea high.
My Favorite Reading Applications
I have used so many applications to read over the years and I’ve got some computer applications that I’d like to recommend. These are not in any particular order, just in the order they came to me. Please keep in mind, I’ve only used them on Windows, so if you’re using any other operating system, I hope they work for you too. Here we go:
Calibre
I love this reader. The order it brings to my library is amazing. The detail in organization is incredible. The books are ordered by series, authors, languages, formats, and more. (I don’t know if you noticed, order is a thing for me). The books are easy to find and read regardless of the format. You can change the book format and edit metadata when you want to. It also allows you to get books from various commercial and public book sources.
FBReader
This is the reader I’m currently using. As far as I can tell, it only reads epub and mobi format. I love how it organizes the book into chapters and moving from page to page is remarkably easy. This is why I love it so much. The font size is perfect for all eyes (even aging ones like mine). Resizing the window is an absolute dream. I love this for its ease of use.
Booknizer
I love this for organization. It works amazingly with a lot of digital book formats as well as paper books. It allows you to sync your ebooks to reading devices like Kindle and Nook. It is also able to convert books from one form to another. It displays book covers, a summary of the book, and other details to help you stay organized. It's easy to use and I really like its colors.
Icecream
This reader is amazing. It has both organizational advantages and is easy to use (plus the blue is easy on the eyes). It supports various file formats and allows for highlighting. It allows you to create a library that lets you track your reading progress, favorites, and so much more.
Microsoft Edge
This one shocked me (in such a good way). I use it to read PDFs because, as I said, my current reader doesn’t support it. This reader allows two-page views, highlighting, translating, and so much more. I love it, I hope you do too.
I know this is not a complete list of applications you can use but they are the ones that I love. I’ve heard of one called Aquile Reader, have you tried it? Which apps do you use? Let me know in the comments section.
Wattpad Pick of the Week:
Storm and Silence by RobThier (Robert Thier)
I love Lilly. If you like strong adventurous women, you will too. Truth is, I love Ambrose more (The strong silent type… wow). This is the second series I fell in love with on Wattpad. Sir Rob is a genius writer and I know for a fact you will love his stories too.
Book Says What?:
Fable by Adrienne Young
I was genuinely surprised by how much I loved this story. I couldn’t put it down. It took me back into my imagination and my youth all at the same time. It’s a beautiful read with a bit of action and mystery (and romance, of course).
On Blast...:
Where's Your Favorite Place to Read?
I’m putting every reader on blast today. Where is your favorite place to read? I’ll go first. I have chair that faces this large avocado tree just outside my house. When the breeze from the lake hits it just right, it dances like a seasoned ballerina swaying with such elegance and grace. It’s my favorite reading spot.
Thank you for spending time with me. Until our next bookish adventure…😜
